District Mission Statement
The Manzanola School District shall strive to provide a safe environment, meaningful opportunities and innovative educational programs for all students so that they reach their learning potential, including that they meet or exceed state and district content standards, through partnerships between home, school, and the community.
Manzanola is a small rural town located in the southeastern part of Colorado in the Arkansas Valley in Otero County. This area is known for producing much of the fruit and vegetables of the state of Colorado. The elevation of Manzanola is 4255 and the population is between 450 and 500.
Manzanola School District 3J is comprised of Manzanola Elementary School (K-6) and Manzanola Jr-Sr High School (7-12). The current enrollment of each school is about 80 students. Bobcat Pride runs deep throughout this small community. Academics definitely is the first priority for the Manzanola School District, but also involvement in other activities is encouraged and supported in order to produce well rounded prepared productive citizens. Concurrent classes are offered through Otero Community College in Math, English, and Speech.
High School athletic teams offered include 6-man football, girls volleyball, basketball, wrestling and baseball. Arrangements can be made with area schools for cross-country, girls softball, and track for interested students. Junior High athletic teams include football, girls volleyball, basketball, and track . Manzanola School District just received a GOCO grant to renovate and update the outdoor athletic and recreational factilites.
Clubs and other activities include: Student Council, National Honor Society, Claws for a Cause (community service organization), 7-12 Band, Choir, Art, and Drama.
Manzanola School District offers concurrent credit classes through Otero Junior College in La Junta, where students receive both high school and college credit, in the areas of Math, English, and Speech. Also the district encourages students to take classes at OJC, either in person or online, and will pay tuition for up to 5 classes per semester, which includes concurrent classes.
Through local grant money, Manzanola School District is privileged to have a wide range of technology offerings for their students. Each classroom, both elementary and secondary, is equipment with a interactive whiteboard and projector. At the elementary, every student has a laptop prepared for them, to be used at school. At the jr-sr high school, there are two 24-computer labs for classroom use and there are 50 students laptops that teachers can check out for students to use in their class. The district has a Local Area Network and also a wireless network for all buildings. There are also 100 I-pads that teachers can check out for their students to use in the classroom.
The Manzanola School District takes pride in providing a 21st century diversified education for each and every student.
Manzanola is located in the southeastern corner of Colorado in Otero County. The Jr-Sr High School is located 3 blocks south of Highway 50 at 301 S. Catalpa and the Elementary School is located two blocks west of the Jr-Sr High School at 200 S. Catalpa. The athletic fields and recreational facilities are located on the Jr-Sr High School campus.
